Community Immersion - Walnut Hills

Saturday April 10th - 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Join us THIS SATURDAY, April 10th, as we explore the unique stories of Walnut Hills and learn more on the revitalization efforts that we touched upon during the Sounding Sessions in February.  Here are a few things you will experience during the Community Immersion:

·         Learn how the Work Resource Center uses corn-hole to provide jobs

·         Help clean the grounds around the Harriet Beecher Stowe house to celebrate her upcoming 200th birthday

·         See a former church converted into a recording studio

·         Throw some clay on a pottery wheel at Amphora Studios

·         Celebrate the day from 3:30pm – 5:30pm at a Community Block Party with a free grill-out and beer.

Lunch will be provided and don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle!  We hope you can join us!

Join us for the Community Immersion Here!!!

What is a “Community Immersion”?

A Community Immersion event is a way to intimately get to know a community that you might not have truly experienced, but needs our attention. During the event, you will engage in a walking tour to learn about the community’s history, arts, culture, small businesses, revitalization efforts and volunteer opportunities. Plus, enjoy a complimentary lunch and the company of the community’s most passionate and knowledgeable residents!

After registering, check out Walnut Hills @ www.walnuthills.us & www.whbizassn.org

Blazing Trails

Saturday April 24th - 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM

Want to get your Spring off to a BLAZING start?  Join Give Back Cincinnati as we partner with Cincinnati Off Road Alliance (CORA) and get down and dirty in Devou Park on Saturday April 24th.  Search for those old hiking shoes, grab that old pair of jeans, and find that favorite work shirt, as we gear up to build some trails!

We had such a great time working with CORA last year as we took on an entirely new type of event; we decided to head back for some more fun.  This event will be unlike any of Give Back Cincinnati’s other events this year, are you prepared?  What better way to form a bond with new friends than doing some hard work?

The work will be challenging, demanding, extremely physical, and by the end of the day you’ll probably let out a few sighs of exhaustion.  There is a 30-minute hike to the work site.  Once you arrive to the work site you can expect to be digging, tearing out honeysuckle, and other types of landscaping.  No worries though, your hard work will be rewarded with an exciting after party!

The after party will start around 1:30.  We will hike back down around 1:00 to a nice cookout at the base of the mountain.  There will be games (possibly a cornhole tournament) with door prizes, consisting of zoo passes and gift cards.  So don’t leave once the work is finished.  Stay and enjoy a relaxing, fun party to celebrate our accomplishments as well as socialize with fellow GBC members.

If you like hiking and working in your yard, why not take both to the extreme with Give Back Cincinnati?  Join Give Back Cincinnati on Saturday, April 24th as we help CORA complete the trail in Northern Kentucky at Devou Park.  All of your help will do more than build trails; it will increase attendance at the park, and bring more people into the surrounding communities.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided to keep you fueled during the day, and a relaxing after party will be immediately follow the event.  We hope to see you out on the trails as we switch gears from our normal events, and take it to the extreme!

For more information about CORA, you can visit their website at: http://www.joinomba.org/cora/.  Once you are there you can learn about their background, their mission, and about other trails in the area.  Also, if you want to get more information from them, you can sign up for their newsletter to get all of the latest news going on in the local mountain biking community.

Registration will begin at 8:15.  The hike up the mountain will begin once the majority of volunteers have signed in.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for Blazing Trails!!!

Opening Day on the Square

We had a wonderful day on the square and would like to thank all who joined us as volunteers and/or attendees.  The weather was in our favor even though the Reds were on the wrong side of the scoreboard.  MANY thanks to the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company for their support throughout the day....yes Cincinnati... you drank all the Hudy Delight within the 275 beltway.  This lead us having Little Kings on tap which was truly divine.  If you haven't had Little Kings, it is time to do so today.  Many thanks to 3CDC for their support and to all the vendors who joined us; Senor Roy's Taco Truck, Crock of Love, Josh's Little Guys LLC t-shirt company, Dewey’s non-profit organization DewMore and MRC, Pure Romance and Mythos Greek Restaurant.  All the vendors were delightful to work with and we are very excited that they attended our event... Most are on Facebook/twitter so please check them out when you have a minute if you have not already.

 On the Horizon....

Paint the Town Prep Day -  May 15th:   Paint the Town prep day is a chance to give a little extra to the Paint the town project or to be involved even if you are busy on June 12th.  Join us as we scrape and prep all of the houses we will paint in June.  Look for sign-ups in Late April.

Paint the Town -  June 12th:    Join us for another great and awe-inspiring event.  We will be in Evanston & Avondale this year and we are extremely excited as the communities have already been so accommodating and helpful

Kids' Olympics -  July 17th:    You still have that Olympic fever? Couldn't quite make it to Canada recently? Join us for our own (and better!!) Olympics with local children.  Stay tuned for details.

  Matthew Lafkas, Communications Director

THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS...
