C: Rumpke online recycling dictionary

2. Recycling one glass bottle or jar saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for:

Four Hours

3. Which list of items can all be recycled in the Cincinnati curbside program?

Glass bottles, Mixed office paper, Bi-metal cans, Cardboard

4. What percentage of plastic soda bottles (made of PET, or polyethylene terephthalate) are recycled in the United States?

22 Percent

5. Approximately how many trees would be saved if everyone who received a daily Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper recycled it for a year?

B: We did some math here. The Cincinnati Enquirer has a daily circulation of 206,320. Assuming an average two-pound weight for each paper, the number of papers produced per tree is 830 ( www.spiritone.com/~brucem/savetree.htm). If every one of the daily subscribers recycles, that's 206,320 people x 365 days/person = 75,306,800 newspapers recycled. Dividing the total number of papers (75,306,800) by the number of papers per tree (830) gives the number of trees saved (90,731). Approximately, the answer is 100,000.
