Great American Clean-up

When: Sunday, 1 May, 2005
Time: 1:00:00 PM - 5:00:00 PM
Location: Findlay Market
Hours: 160
Volunteers: 40
Description:

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the wind was gusting. Beautiful weather, paint brushes and Give Back Cincinnati volunteers? There is not much that can top that combination for a great day.

Our New Opportunities director, Johnmark Oudersluys, started off the day explaining the different projects that we would be tackling at Findlay Market.

Butterfly Garden
A large mound of dirt awaited the attention of these volunteers. It may be been impressive at the start but we knocked it down to size. Our volunteers planted trees, plants and flowers under the tutelage of master gardeners. The passage was tough but the results speak for themselves.

Mural Wall
The outline of a masterpiece, a shadow of the treasure to be, was coiled on the wall ready to spring to life with color. Although simple in concept, the paint by numbers direction provided to our volunteers led to a great looking market scene full of bright colors which was made only brighter by the smiles of those who had labored to produce.

Entrance Facades
Our members also painted the entrance to several public housing buildings just down the street from Findlay market. The new splash of color really added to the charm of the street
